Ganderbal, Nov 08 (KNO): People in Wussan Kangan on Wednesday complained about inadequate healthcare and lack of basic diagnostic facilities at Primary Health Centre (PHC) along Srinagar-Leh Highway.
Due to non-availability of a gynaecologist, pregnancy care has also been hit badly and women of the area are facing severe hardships, said a local.
They said the solar system worth lakhs installed at the hospital some years ago is also defunct.
They demanded that the X-Ray machine be upgraded, and ensure other facilities are available in the PHC so that people do not have to face problems.
Abdul Rahim, a local resident told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Primary Health centre is fully equipped with latest medical equipment including diagnostic facilities and medicine. But non availability of doctors at the health facility is affecting them.
He adds that in case of any emergency they are forced to travel long distances either to reach Kangan or Ganderbal hospital.
Patients told KNO that the USG machine at the PHC has not been in use for more than one year because of a lack of a radiologist.
Majority of the patients visiting the PHC for treatment come from poor financial backgrounds who cannot afford to pay hefty charges to private laboratories.
The locals have requested the concerned authorities and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and redress their grievances—(KNO)
